How to Setup WordPress & Install the Theme for your Website

Now that you set up your hosting at SiteGround and got your Divi theme it’s time to setup WordPress settings and install Divi theme.

So in this article, you will learn how to set up WordPress, install the theme and customize your website with plugins.

After you do everything that we talked in the first part on How to Start a Blog or How to Start Business website open a new window in your browser and go to your new website.

When you go to this page of your site you will see this window where to can log in to your WordPress Dashboard.

After you write down your login details that you entered before in SiteGround installation and clicked login you will get to your WordPress Dashboard from where you will control your website.

How to Install WordPress Divi theme

First thing after logging in is installing your Divi theme. Open a new browser window and go to your member area of Elegant themes to download Divi theme zip file (you don’t need to unzip the file, just download it to your computer)

After you got your Divi theme zip file go back to your websites WordPress Dashboard and go to on Appearances > Themes section on the left of WordPress Dashboard. Click the “Add New” button on the top of the Themes page.

After that window will open where you can upload your Divi theme zip file that you just downloaded. Locate that file and upload it to your WordPress website and activate the theme. After this process, your website is running on default Divi theme and now you can edit and build a website in the way you like.

Create Your Esiancial Website Pages

Majority of business websites and successful blogs have those pages and you have to create them and tweak them in a way you like. To build pages on WordPress go to Pages > Add New. There is also prebuild demo pages that Divi theme provides so check them out.

    • Homepage – This is the page that will open when someone will go to your URL. This page should show enough information about your business or blog and have few call to action buttons to direct traffic where you want.
    • About Us – Here you will show who you are. Information about you, your business, the team that runs this business and etc.
    • Contact Us – this is the page where you have to enter contact information. If you are big business and address and contact form, or if you are a small blog that is just starting out add your email, in the beginning, it will be enough.
    • Blog – Blog page is essential not just for bloggers but for businesses too. Blog drives traffic and customers to your webpage. It’s up to you how you are going to use it. You can write news about your business or you can just build blog articles that convert to sales it’s up to you.
    • Legal pages – these pages depends on the website you are building, but it’s clear that you want to protect your venture with the law. So building Terms of Service; Privacy Policy; Disclaimer and other legal pages is really important.
    • Other pages – other pages depends on what type of website you are trying to build and it’s up to you to create the best website you want.

Customizing Your WordPress Website & Theme Settings

After your new website has pages and some content you can edit the settings of your webpage and theme.

If you want to edit theme options with Divi theme it’s really easy just go to your WordPress Dashboard to Divi > Theme options and select options accordingly to the website you are building. The first thing that I would recommend to do is enter your Elegant Themes username and API key so that your websites will update without any effort from you.

Set up WordPress Websites Settings

If you want to change recommended WordPress settings or change sites title or tagline, or setup time, time zone and etc. You have to go to your WordPress dashboard to the Settings tab.

Setup your website title with the name of your page and tagline is to describe your website. Don’t forget to enter keywords that are related to your niche.

All the most important settings of your WordPress website is controlled through here. You have to set up them only one time and it does not take a lot of time. After you have done everything don’t forget to click save changes button to save your new settings.

Set up WordPress Comments Settings

Comments on your blog posts are important, it’s the place where you communicate with your customers it’s also content that website visitors are interested in.

WordPress has its own commenting system, you can set up all the settings at Settings > Discussions it’s easy and intuitive to set up but don’t forget to click save changes button to save your new settings.

Adding WordPress Plugins to your Website

What’s awesome with WordPress is that you can add any functionality to your website in no time. You just download and activate the plugin with the function you want on your website, it’s like apps on your phone.

You can find plugins at WordPress Dashboard Plugins > Add New. There you can search for the plugin you need and install them when you need a new function on your website.

There are tons of free and premium plugins that you can choose from so you will definitely find what you need.

Add Valuable Content to Your Site

To create a post for your blog first create categories of the posts you are going to write. Go to Posts > Categories and add categories related to the content you will be creating.

After you have your categories go Posts > Add New and start writing your first blog post for your new website.
